The North Platte Telegraph

Roofing is almost complete on the new Lincoln County Jail. On Monday, jail inspector Kirk Nichols told the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners that flashings still have to be completed. The lobby roof also isn't finished, but Nichols said the roofers are waiting on more materials.

Friday morning's rain hampered progress, but the roofers were back on site Saturday and Sunday. Nichols said some of the insulation got wet and will have to be replaced. Some membrane will also have to be reinstalled.

He said there were some leaks and several puddles on the roof as of Monday morning, but most of the puddles were shallower than the manufacturer's limit. Representatives from the materials manufacturing company that's being used were at the jail Monday examining the work.

"We're in the best shape we've been in to date," said Nichols.

Also at the meeting, the commissioners heard protests from landowners who had been denied special valuations on their property by the assessor's office because their land was considered recreational instead of agricultural.

The commissioners overruled the assessors' decisions in all of the cases.

The board reappointed Betty Sones, Linda Hansen, Bob Mann and Roger Merritt to the Lincoln County Planning Commission for three-year terms. They approved a special designated liquor permit submitted by Whiskey Creek Steak House for an event at the Creekside Event Center Aug. 20.

They also approved claims and treasurer's receipts, certificates of correction and refund and notice of valuation changes submitted by the county assessor and an exemption application submitted by Pawnee Assisted Living.
