ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW; Mid-Plains United Way serves 16 counties in West Central Nebraska. We believe in uniting resources to build a strong caring community OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting Relationship; President Board of Trustees Purpose and Scope: Responsible for overall management, direction, and execution of all fundraising, grant writing, communication, marketing, planning, fund distribution, community problem solving, and administrative activities of the United Way Plans, organizes, manages, and directs all efforts of the organization, including those of United Way in its role as a community impact and fundraising organization and in its role as the homeless coalition lead agency. Works with the Board of Trustees, donors, community and corporate leaders, community partners, staff and volunteers to iden¬tify, understand and act on the issues which enable the United Way to accomplish its vision and mission Provides lead¬ership and support to volunteers in carrying out the plans and policies of Mid-Plains United Way as established by the Board of Trustees. Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Development and Management of Community Fundraising Resources: Prepare for the annual community fundraising campaign, including but not limited to, generating text for the campaign brochure, public service announcements with radio and television; oversee¬ing staff efforts relative to revisions and printing of pledge forms, envelopes, etc ; working with volunteers during campaign Manages the annual United Way community fundraising campaign to generate the maximum financial support. This includes management and oversight of the campaign season events, volunteer campaign team development, communications, and recognition. Conduct fundraising campaign efforts, including but not limited to, conducting workplace campaign meetings; conducting or participating in CEO visits; generating or reviewing communications to donors/potential donors and volunteers. Provide progress reports in a timely manner during the campaign. Causes to be published all material necessary for the development and training of volunteers, fundraising and reporting to the general membership on the financial position of the United Way Generate, utilizing staff expertise, as appropriate, grant applications in support of community impact initiatives, building fund, and general revenue. Provide management and oversight of the distribution of funds available for support of funded agencies. Coordinate the process of agency evalu ation to ensure agencies utilize funds as prescribed. Demonstrate stewardship and accountability for financial and facility resources. Ensure the organization's technology is sufficient in a highly competitive fundraising environment. Community Leadership: Leeds the interaction with the community in accordance with United Way Worldwide expectations and Mid-Plains United Way. In coordination with volunteer leadership, plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates United Way initiatives. Cultivates and develops cooperative relationships among public, private, and voluntary groups, such as service providers, funding sources, plcnning bodies, business, and other community groups, to plan for, fund, and implement effective human services to meet community needs. Serves as a spokesperson for the organization on relevant issues. Demonstrates a commitment to United Way values through a stewardship role in a community process in which people of diverse backgrounds shape together a vision of mobilizing our community to improve lives. Organizational Leadership: Establishes the organizational work plan as well as the board's role and the procedures necessary for effectively operating the United Way. Consults with the board president or committee chairs to prepare meeting schedules, agendas, reports and minutes of meetings. Maintains the business and financial affairs of United Way in accordance with all acceptable stan¬dards of business and regulatory agencies. Participates on the Finance Committee and consults with the treasurer in the provision of financial reports, budgets, and investments. Ensures integration of effective and efficient support systems in areus such as staff and volunteei training, procurement, personnel management, building man- agement, and information management. Provides for the establishment of necessary lists of volunteers at every level, potential board members and committee chairs, agency staff and board mem- bers, service clubs, and governmental departments relating to human ser vices. Reviews and approves, as appropriate, all purchase requisitions, travel expenses, employee lime sheets, vendor invoices, and other expenditures Reviews and co-signs checks. Knowledge, Skills an Abilities: Knowledge of accounting principles and practices; Excellent written and verbal communication Organizational and planning skills; ability to prioritize & manage multiple assignments; strong attention to detail. Ability to develop strong trusting relationships in order to gain support and achieve results Interpersonal and negotiation skills; ability to interact at all levels within and outside the organization Proven track record in grant writing skills. Strong analytical, problem-solving and quantitative abilities, Strong computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree preferred Experience in personnel management/supervision, budget development and oversight, grant writing, and demonstrated competence in the areas of fund raising, public relations and community problem solving Any equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved may be acceptable.
