THEDFORD

Hereford Crossroads is Oct. 13

Hereford Crossroads No. 4 is on Oct. 13 at the Hooker County Community Center at the fairgrounds west of Mullen on Nebraska Highway 2.

The cost is $25 per person and includes a meal of certified Hereford beef. Doors will open for registration at 5 p.m. MT. Social hour is from 5 to 6 p.m. MT and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. MT. The program will follow at 7 p.m. MT.

Tickets may be purchased in advance by sending $25 per person to Hereford Crossroads, No. 4, c/o Dixie Hoffman, P.O. Box 192, Thedford, NE 69166. Checks should be made to Hereford Crossroads. Please make reservations to Hoffman by Friday.

The common denominator of the event is the love for beef in general and admiration for the Hereford breed. Past breeders and organizations have been contacted to set up their ranch or organization memorabilia for all to enjoy a trip down memory lane. The evening will also include induction into the Nebraska Hereford Hall of Fame that includes prominent Hereford producers and a herd sire whose progeny has given much to the enhancement of the breed.

“Nebraska’s nickname is ‘The Beef State’ because of the foundation of Herefords on so many Nebraska ranches for over 50 years,” said Linda Teahon of Dunning. “So much of the history that was from the early days of raising Herefords in Nebraska is being lost. The Nebraskans for Hereford Heritage group is collecting history, storing it, and hopefully in a few years will be able to display it in their own Nebraska Hereford Museum.”

Teahon is the daughter of the late Donal and Pauline Clouse of Purdum who raised and sold Hereford bulls for 20 years in conjunction with Spencer Herefords of Brewster.

Lodging is available at the Sandhills Motel, Mullen, by calling 308-546-2206, owners Mitch and Patty Glidden, or the Double R Guest Ranch, north of Mullen, owner Pat Bridges at 308-546-2314.

Homecoming game rescheduled

The 2018 Sandhills-Thedford Knight Homecoming, which was scheduled for Sept. 20, was canceled due to injuries on the Wallace football team. The date has been changed to Oct. 18, when the Knights host Medicine Valley in Thedford.
